Shift overlap meetings, otherwise know as Green Room meetings,
are typically
used to communicate information such as: safety, new procedures,
problems
with the previous shift, and other general information. Sometimes
quick training
sessions are conducted as well as shift turnover meetings.
While some of these
events are critical, most are just ‘nice to do’
and are scheduled solely to fill up
the available time.
Green Room meetings originally started because of poor labor
schedule design.
Employees were given 30-minute unpaid lunch breaks, but to
prevent employee
paychecks from going below 40-hours a week on 8-hour shifts,
8.5-hour shifts
were scheduled. This caused managers to create things to do
in an attempt to
fill up the employee’s 30-minute shift overlap. In reality,
most overlap meetings
only require 10-minutes or less, leaving a lot of idle time.
Today, companies are
sill wasting hundreds of thousands of dollars on a problem
that can be solved.
Our experts have successfully developed and implemented custom
scheduling
solutions that capture a variety of cost savings, such as
minimizing a shift overlap, or making this time more effective
in companies just like yours. Contact
