In most facilities, the majority of maintenance schedules
are Monday through
Friday with heavy overtime on the weekends. Maintenance and
production
schedules typically mirror each other. The best practice is
to cover the firefighting requirements during the key production
periods and to have full
staffing where planned downtime exists to get full access
to the equipment.
Just as it is hard to change a flat tire on a moving car,
fixing troubled equipment
while it is running also doesn’t make any sense.
Core Practice Partners works hard to create complimentary
systems that ensure production gets the support it needs and
maintenance isn’t left working every weekend contributing
to high attrition.
Measuring maintenance workloads is always a challenge. Accurate
data is
hard to find, even if SAP and other expensive software systems
have been
implemented to measure and monitor productivity. Creating
solutions for
maintenance departments is truly a hands on project.
