Often we find two extremes in the workplace when looking at
how employees
react to change. The first extreme is where management explains
that the
employees will “do what we want because they are used
to change.” However
this often means that the employees have been though so much
change they
are shell shocked and are just going through the motions.
Employees are just
putting in their time, leading to low morale and reduced productivity.
The much
more common extreme is that management tries to make a change,
the
employees resist and the battle lines are drawn. Employees
have learned that
since management never consults them in a meaningful way before
a change,
the best way to get results is through after the fact complaining,
slow downs,
increased call ins and other divisive shows of dissatisfaction.
Core Practice’s methodology involves the employees in
a meaningful way by
allowing them input throughout the process. Even when a change
is not going
to be employee friendly, this input and communication driven
method enables
the employees to understand the change and have the ability
to have some
impact before it is announced. So get employees working with
management to
find a solution instead of battling to make changes stick.
